Diablo III General / Patch 2.2.0
« on: February 25, 2015, 09:09:59 PM »
Here are the 2.2.0 patch notes for the Public Test Realm: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/blog/18061643/patch-220-ptr-patch-notes-2-25-2015

First thing on the list:

Quote
  • Regular Health Potions have been removed from the game
  • The Health Potion slot on the action bar is now a bottomless Heath Potion that will heal you for 60% of your maximum Life
  • The functionality of Legendary bottomless potions is unchanged

WTF am I supposed to do with the 1,642 Health Potions I currently have in my inventory?

I double checked the router and all the proper ports are forwarded. I'll try resetting the modem and get a fresh IP address. The current one hasn't changed in years.

I'll post the new IP here when it's done. Throbble is working right now so I can't fuck with the router.

EDIT: How far does everyone get when trying to connect? Do you get as far as the character select? Also, after you try to direct connect, does the server show up on your history list?

Thanks!

Hmm, I looked at my firewall settings and "Neverwinter Nights Server" has checks in the boxes to allow access through both private and public networks.

I'll do some research and see if I can figure out what the problem is.

Is the throbbleserv IP up-to-date? I've gotten a "Server Timed-Out" error the past few times I've tried.
Still the same IP. What time did you try logging in? (I shut it down from 11pm - 8am Pacific time.)

I'll ask Throbble and Cuchulann to see if they can log in.

General Gaming / Wolfenstein: The New Order
« on: February 15, 2015, 01:23:07 PM »
I played this game (almost) all the way through. Overall I liked thought it was really good. Very nice graphics (I have a screenshot as one of my backgrounds), cool storyline (I'll have to play through again to see what happens when I make the other decision at the beginning), and fun weapons (dual-wield assault rifles anyone?). There was also a very interesting mechanic involving a weapon called the "LaserKraftWerk", which lets you cut through chain link fences, chains, and thin metal plates.

However, the reason I say I almost finished it is because the final battle fucking sucks! It's WAY too fucking hard, especially when compared to the rest of the game. I don't mind a difficult final boss but I looked up some tips and all the forums I looked at were just lists of complaints about how the final battle ruined the game for people.

Anyway, I may try again someday, but I'll probably just play through a second time and see how the other storyline turns out. Right now I'm so pissed off at the game that I'm just going to play other shit for awhile.

It sounds like there may be some limited ability to create on your own, just not necessarily a full toolset with scripting. I'm curious how the DMing will work without bogging down the pace of the game.
Probably similar to the DMFI Wands and Widgets which we incorporated into the CEP at one point.

Basically you plan out the adventure, figure out what encounters there should be, then just set the creatures/npcs for the widget. Selecting the creatures involved opening a special area in the toolset and placing the creatures you want for various encounters in different rooms. I'm sure it will be something much more simple, like selecting from a menu.

I like the graphics. Too bad there's no toolset/world building. I may play it just because I liked the Baldur's Gate series.

The Boston area is gearing up for our fourth snowstorm in two weeks, with a fifth coming on Thursday. This is what we have already. The mound on the corner of the driveway is getting up to my neck. Actually starting to get a bit frustrated with it all... :p
To quote my step-father who grew up in Boston and settled in California: "I will never live in a place that has seasons again."

Tell me, do you shovel the driveway only to have the snow plow pile it back in?

While some people are busy watching the Super Bowl I've been busy testing out the new flavor of Skittles called "Orchards"!

As the name suggests, it's fruit themed with following five flavors:

Cherry
Orange
Peach
Red Apple
and... LIME!!!

That's right, they brought back lime. The flavor is slightly different than I remember, as it lingers a little longer, but you can now buy "regular" Skittles and Orchards flavor, change out the green apples for limes and BAM, Skittles Classic! Yeah Baby!

I found the individual flavors of this new product to be pretty good. Not a big fan of the cherry, but when all five flavors are eaten together it works well. Also tried it mixed with M&Ms and it mixes well.

« on: January 31, 2015, 03:22:01 PM »
Got this recently:

Here are the differences in the stats between an ancient ring and a legendary ring with similar stats:

Quote
Legendary Ring Stat Ranges

Damage: 60-160
Stat (str, dex, int, vit): 416-500
Critical Hit Chance: 4.5-6.0
Gold Find: 32-35

Quote
Ancient Ring Stat Ranges

Damage: 88-210
Stat (str, dex, int, vit): 550-650
Critical Hit Chance: 4.5-6.0
Gold Find: 32-35

So, some stats have higher ranges while others remain in the same range.

I hate these games...i hate crafting...I curse it's existence...
I find the concept of these games pretty odd. I mean, I like "crafting" if it involves a toolset and a scripting language. Hell, I even made a custom item crafting system for Smith Hold. But the idea of a game where you mine then craft seems a little meta to me. Just give me the tools (ie toolset) and I'll build a world for everyone to play in.

Diablo III General / Ancient Items

Patch 2.1.2 introduced a new category of items: Ancient items. These are legendary/set items with much higher stats than their non-ancient counterparts.

Post your ancient items here so we can all bask in their glory.

(Notice the fancy gold frame around the item's property window.)

Diablo III General / Treasure Goblins Galore!
« on: January 17, 2015, 12:59:49 PM »
This weekend on the PC, PS 4, and Xbox One, all Treasure Goblins will spawn in pairs. This includes the three new goblins, Gem Hoarder (drops gems), Blood Thief (drops blood shards), Odious Collector (drops crafting materials and recipes), and Malevolent Tormentor (drops legendary and set items).

In addition to that, the 2.1.2 patch will sometimes spawn mobs of goblins. I ran into a group of one or two dozen (it was hard to count as they all ran off in different directions and I ended up getting mobbed by champs and legendary monsters).

Anyway, get out there and stomp some gobs!

Thanks for the run-down on the game. If you make your own world does it give you a seed so you can share it with the community?

Also, Simpsons are coming to Minecraft!

http://full-timewhistle.com/technology-22/the-simpsons-headed-to-minecraft-3479.html

Being a huge Simpsons fan (Throbble and I just finished building the Simpsons house out of Lego) it sounds pretty cool. Unfortunately, it's only for the X-Box platforms and I don't have a console.

It's like Inception. How many layers deep can you go?
Balls deep.

Frankly, I don't understand Minecraft at all. The graphics suck and I can't figure out what the hell the point is. I can't even tell if it's multiplayer or single player. Is there a storyline? People post videos about finding cool things, but can't you just build a world like NWN?

Very confusing.

« on: January 16, 2015, 07:06:45 PM »
Bumping this because I might need it soon...

Does anyone remember if the original campaign or SoU had any multiplayer issues?
Pretty sure there are no multiplayer problems with SoU or original campaign. Even though SoU was made by Floodgate Entertainment, they used the same "GetFirstPC" and "GetNextPC" functions to make sure everyone in the party got credit for any quest progress.

If I remember correctly, at one point  multiple people uploaded alternate multiplayer friendly HotU scripts to NWVault. But I felt the workaround posted above was preferable to making everyone download the same .hak file.

Diablo III General / The Vault (Greed's Realm)
« on: January 12, 2015, 02:20:37 PM »
I finally got to see Greed's realm!

On very rare occasions, when you kill a Treasure Goblin, they open a portal to Greed's realm, which is an area called "The Vault". It's a relatively small area with piles of gold and some Treasure Goblins, and an end area called the "Inner Sanctum" which contains a boss called the Baroness of Greed. One thing to note is, the portal to The Vault can only be accessed by players who were in the game at the time the portal opened. (Sorry Throbble!)

At the end I had found ~3 mil gold, 13 Marquise Gems of various types, 15 Imperial Gems of various types, a legendary crusader shield, a legendary ring, and a legendary gem that only drops from Greed herself.

Here are screenshots of the start, end, and gem:

Do you still have the server up from time to time 420? I tried to log on today, but it wasn't up.

I got a new computer recently and haven't taken the time to reinstall NWN because of the holidays keeping me busy. (That and The Simpsons Lego house which is 2500+ pieces.)

I'll install NWN this weekend and post here when Smith Hold is back up. I'm looking at bringing up a permanent server soon but I got a lot of cleaning up to do to make room for it.

Hmmm DA:Origins huh? I'd rank that as one of the best RPGs of the past 20 years.  Wow that was a good game.

Yes it has a tactical combat system, which I really enjoy.  I like to be able to micromanage my party members. I hit space bar to pause combat all the time.  Sounds like you don't like that sort of tactical gameplay.  The more recent DA games leave that bahind to placate the more mainstream gamer...to my sadness...

"one of the best RPGs of the past 20 years" - Alright, is this on a top ten list or a top 100 list because I don't think it qualifies for the former option.

"bahind" - Is that how the spell it in the Great White North?

Also, did you know that you weigh less in Canada than you do in the USA because Canada has a slightly lighter gravity? (Difference of .0002%)

Merry Christmas everyone!

Picked up a bunch of games when the Steam holiday sale started...Machinarium, A Story About My Uncle, Anna, Only If, Kario, and Dragon Age: Origins. The only one I've really dug into so far was Dragon Age, which I just had to put down out of frustration...it should have everything I would enjoy in a game, but the combat and party systems are obnoxious and ineffective. I have no desire to sit there and micromanage a group of NPCs in addition to my character.
I had my suspicions about Dragon Age not being as good as all the hype said it was. It just seemed so generic to me when it was first advertised.

So the movie Smaug is a wyvern.
I want this quote on a t-shirt.

I read a review that pretty much said the exact same thing about the high frame rate ruining the visuals by making the movie look to "fake". I've been waiting for all 3 films to be released before watching them but now I'm thinking I may skip them all together.

Computer stuff / Re: new hard drive & steam issue

When we got our gaming laptop I learned a couple things about Steam games:

Always reinstall them on a new machine/hard drive instead of just copying over the files.

Certain games, like Wolfenstein: New Order, need to have their save games copied over manually. Other games just save to the cloud and don't need the save games copied over.
