Diablo III General / March Only Cow Level
« on: March 02, 2016, 12:01:25 PM »
This month only there is a special cow level accessible from a portal in the Immortal King's throne room in the Ruins of Sescheron in Act 3. A link to the article is pasted below.

EDIT: The Immortal Throne is located in a side area of the ruins called the "Elder Sanctum". Just tried out the cow level, it's relatively small but the cows are densely packed.

No, I've been busy with Wolfenstein: Old Blood (but like with New Order I can't kill the final boss). Then Diablo 3 had a big patch that added a new area and Kanai's Cube, which is a huge game changer. And on November 10 Fallout 4 comes out, so I'll be busy with that for awhile.

Do you have to reinstall all your apps/games when you upgrade?

The man you loved to hate, dead at 61. I'm a huge pro wrestling fan and it's sad to see so many of these guys dying so young.

Just started playing Hearthstone :/

I played Hearthstone when it first came out then quit for a couple years. Started playing again when it came out on mobile devices. Looks like I missed some events as people have these weird legendary cards I've never seen before. (The upper right corner of the card is shaped like a wing and they have some pretty crazy powers.) Also, Gems of War finally came out for Android devices and you can link it to your existing Steam GoW account.

No, it was this. You can play up through defeating the Skeleton King. I think they had a similar demo for D2.

Oh right, I completely forgot that existed.

Trial version of D3 :p (on topic, or at least on forum)
You mean the PTR (Public Test Realm)?

I used to try that but basically its a waste of time unless you are a hardcore contributor to analyzing and balancing mechanics.

Is Windows 10 really free? As I understand it, if you want DirectX 12 you need Windows 10. So... are there any problems people are aware of upgrading to Windows 10? (Throbble and I are both running Windows 7 64-bit.)

Diablo III General / Patch 2.3.0
« on: June 23, 2015, 06:57:01 PM »
Holy crap! Blizzard is adding a ton of new shit in 2.3.0.

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/blog/19802338/patch-230-ptr-preview-6-23-2015

Just some highlights:

Quote
New Zone: Ruins of Sescheron
In Patch 2.3.0, the frozen wasteland that is the Ruins of Sescheron will open for exploration. Here you'll face off against strange new enemies and perilous environmental hazards, all while unearthing new mysteries from the lore of the mighty Barbarians. Those brave enough to make it through in one piece will discover curious new points of interest, including the lost Tomb of King Kanai and his ultimate treasure-Kanai's Cube.

Quote
New Artifact: Kanai's Cube
Those who played Diablo II might remember the Horadric Cube, a unique device which allowed you to combine items. Useful as it was, it was easily surpassed in power by the item from which it originated, Kanai's Cube. In Patch 2.3.0, players will be able to discover this powerful ancient relic and utilize its incredible potential, including the ability to break down Legendary items and equip their special effects as passive skills (which are separate from your other passive skills), convert crafting materials from one type to another, and so much more.

Quote
Crafting System Updates
For those who eagerly gather crafting materials on their journey to level 70, we've got good news you'll especially enjoy. Starting in Patch 2.3.0, the same crafting mats you use at max level will be available as you level up! We've also crunched down the number of crafting recipes, making the process easier and more fluid than ever as your results now dynamically adjust to your character's level. Whether you're bashing skulls on the highest difficulty or have just started your career and killed your first Champion or Elite pack, your crafting mats will never go to waste.

Quote
New Difficulty Levels
As players continue to discover powerful new gear, the current hardest difficulty level-Torment VI-can begin to feel less challenging. To help keep hardened battle veterans on their toes, we're adding four new Torment levels with appropriate reward rates, including Torment X. We'll be iterating on these new difficulties and rewards as the PTR progresses, so we look forward to hearing your feedback!

More stuff and also new legendary and set items.

I'll have to start saving up cash for a new rig then. No way this one will be able to run it.
Not sure what the system requirements are but I believe they are using the same engine that ran Fallout 3.

I loved Fallout 3 and hated Fallout: New Vegas. Thankfully it's Bethesda and not Obsidian working on this one.

If you go to the page linked above and click on that face with the glowing blue eyes at the top center you can see a video of the event. It's a Cow Goblin that spawns in random areas (like any other gob) and opens a portal to the cow level.

Well, there usually is no cow level. However, from May 15-21 there will be one accessible in the Act 1 area The Wilds.

That could be fun. Though i must say that in series 10 the cast was looking their age. Robert is the lucky one since all the heavy makeup covers his wrinkles.
Heh, Kryten will never age! I hope Ace Rimmer makes an appearance, though the original wig fell apart a couple decades ago.

Red Dwarf series co-creator, Doug Naylor, announced that there will be a season 11 and 12 coming to Dave TV in 2016 and 2017!

For anyone that hasn't seen this show I highly recommend checking it out, starting with episode 1 of course. You can see all the episodes on Hulu.

Lots and lots of Starcraft and Hearthstone.
I played Hearthstone for awhile but lost interest. I'll try and get back into it.

As for StarCraft, I made it about half way through the expansion, but I suck at playing Zerg, so I couldn't play through on "normal" difficulty. Now that the Protoss expansion has been announced I think I'll play through the whole campaign on easy just to get caught up on the storyline in preparation for the new expansion.

That's a good question. Is the game in beta or early access? I think developers are using Steam to kinda build games while selling them at the same time.  PC gamers are more forgiving to buying things in early access or beta.  Once the game is actually finished they will port it to mobile.

I think that is what is happening with Darkest Dungeon (good game btw check it out).  That game looks like it would be perfect for mobile but it's on PC.  It's early access so not even finished yet.

Turns out Gems of War is available on iOS mobile devices, just not Android for some reason.

Time to talk about Legos!

Throbble and I recently bought the Lego Simpsons house (2523 bricks) and the Ghostbusters vehicle with Ghostbusters (much smaller at only 508 bricks). This summer I plan to get Scooby Do's Mystery Machine.

I also finally completed my Simpsons minifigures collection. It was kind of a pain because it's like buying baseball cards. You don't know what you're going to get until you open the package. I was able to figure a couple out by feel but I ended up with six Homers and had to buy Chief Wiggum and Nelson Muntz off EBay.

Now Lego announced that they will be releasing the Kwik-E-Mart as well as 16 new Simpsons minifigures! Sweet.

Check out these links to see pics:

lol you'd make a great QA tester!

Throbble and I were QA testers for Spore and you know how that game turned out...

Anyway, got to play some more Gems of War and I'm liking the game. A match takes about 10 minutes so it's good for some short entertainment when you don't have a lot of time.

It's PvP (against people or computer) and as you win matches you get experience which allows you to acquire and upgrade weapons, party members, and gem affinities. The type of weapon you use determines the type of gems you need to fill up your mana ball. You also acquire party members that require a gem type to fill up their mana balls. When a mana ball fills up you may use that member's special power. Usually it's an attack against the other player's party, but sometimes it's some other ability like, "Choose a row of gems to destroy and gain an amount of armor equal to the number of green gems destroyed.".

All in all, it's more entertaining than Blizzard's Hearthstone but I don't see why it's a PC game an not a mobile game. The company that made it is even called, "505GAMES Mobile".

EDIT: Forgot to mention, it's a freemium game available on Steam.

I got invited to play the beta of Dirty Bomb this weekend which is the newest title by Splash Damage (Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, and BRINK). Set in post apocalyptic London, it's a objective based team vs. team FPS. The gameplay is very similar to BRINK without the lame parkour moves. I'll probably get it even though it will probably suffer the same fate as BRINK.

Yesterday a friend of mine told me to try out Gems of War, which is one of those gem matching games but with some sort of RPG aspect to it. I played through the tutorial last night but I was drunk and don't remember any of it.

Just started playing Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth. I bought it when it first came out but put off playing it until I finished Wolfenstein: The New Order and Saints Row: Gat out of Hell.

It's basically an updated version of one of my favorite games of all time, Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri. The graphics are really nice and the interface takes a little getting used to. For instance, you can't reassign keys and some of the key bindings are awkward. F11 to quicksave Ctrl-F11 to quickload ("Whoops I wanted to quickload, not quicksave!")
