dunno what's up...I don't think I had problems when I prepurchased back in April.  I'll be playing on the world Isle of Janthir.  When it does go through, I'd definitely recommend downloading the client ahead of time because it will be a huge initial download.  As in before the first beta, a lot of people had to let it download overnight.

Anyway, can't wait to play with you in game.

Well, unless you wanted the collectors edition or insist on download you can buy a physical copy from Newegg.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832784011

At least you'll get free shipping, though you might not get it 'in time' with that. Luckily 3 day shipping is usually only a couple of bucks on Newegg.

And then of course there's Amazon. They usually ship games fast and it looks like they'll hook you up so you can play three days early as well, if that's what you wanted.

Don't pay for 3 day shipping. A CD is "media mail" and so is much cheaper and just as fast if requested by First class mail.

There's still a week, so I'd at least give it the weekend to see if whatever issues are going on with their website get resolved.  They usually keep pretty good tabs on problems with their stuff.

Huzzah!  They recently said that the servers might go up as much as 3 hours early so that they can make sure everything's up and running properly by the promised headstart time, so I might be sitting around that night to jump on (granted, that's only if I'm not working a closing shift that night).  Let me know what name you're using when you get in.  Remember, Isle of Janthir!

My screen name is Cochy.8605

My first character will be Ribs, Human or Norn (Human most likely), Guardian.  Are char names two words like GW1?  I plan to make Mo shortly there after, Asura, Necromancer.

Mine is etelrunya.5130, but I don't remember if I ever successfully used that format to add to my contacts.  I always ended up using character names.  Also, character names can be one word in GW2.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to make Enelya Telrunya first, but I'm still debating whether I want her to be a guardian or an elementalist.  I do want to make an elementalist eventually, but I think I'm leaning towards making her a guardian.  I know I'm going to make Gin Swift a human mesmer, and Alasse Telrunya a sylvari ranger though.

You might want to poke through what racial skills are available to each race, because it might impact what profession/race combos you want.

There's another stress test tomorrow from noon-4pm Pacific time tomorrow if you have time and want to poke around and try things out before launch.  I'll probably be on.

Must reserve names......I'll fire up the client tomorrow when I get home.  I imagine all character creations made before launch are wiped out.

Dont like the fact that you can't click to move anymore??

Also dont' like that you need to run up to the enemy in order to attack.  ie. no target + space bar to engage.

Totally worth it.  I've enjoyed every minute I've played, and I always find something interesting to do.  I was telling Mo last night that I get a little ADD when I play, because every time I see something different to do I want to do it.

Here's a little bit from my favourite game blog.

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/08/27/impressions-levels-1-15-in-guild-wars-2/
So what is up with this statement?

Quote
Here's the colossal, incredible folly of Guild Wars 2, though: I can't play it with my friends.
Sounds like a problem. Did you and Elessar have any problems playing together?

EDIT: Also, Mo mentioned something about the "personal storyline". How does that work exactly? The reviewer seems to have problems with that too.

Right now, we've given up on even trying - especially as the game won't let us join each other on our 'personal storylines', which is a string of scripted quests, interspersed with flat, tedious cutscenes, tailored to your choices in character creation.

Yes it gets complicated because of these "over-flow" areas.  Elessar and I were both in there no problem but when room open's up inside the "regular" area, I got prompted to move into it.  I assumed that it would bring Elessar with me but it doesn't.  So we were separated.  I'm sure Anet will fix this situation to keep everyone together.  There's functionally no difference between the overflow and regular areas save probably for more players being in the regular areas.  It is a bit cloogie but like I said, I expect it to be sorted out.

The problems with the personal story he was having in the review seemed to stem from the issue above.  Though in my game with Elessar he was with me on my personal-quest with no problems.

My take on the "heart-events", which are the area wide events that have replaced quests is mixed right now.  At least in the lower level areas these events are pretty rudimentary, i.e. stop stampeding minotaurs.  Then everyone in the area it out there killing minotaurs and the game ranks how well you did and rewards you with a medal (bronze, silver, gold).  I hope these events get more involved later on.  But a bigger concern of mine is that after 5 or 10 minutes the event respawns so there's no sense of accomplishment in a way.  I like these but I would like to have the static quests back too.

I definitely think they still need to build up some of the tutorial, but comparatively it has gotten a lot better.  There was virtually nothing in the way of tutorial in the first beta event.

As for playing together, usually, if I was in an overflow server, I didn't have a problem connecting with someone else in the overflow server, and it's pretty easy to get into the overflow if it's overflowing (just zone to another area and zone back).  Also, for the personal story, you can bring party mates with you, but you both have to be near that personal story point, and a dialogue box will pop up asking if you want to join your team mate in his personal story.  I think his problem is that he hasn't figured out how to find his teammates, which admittedly is never really explained.  It's something you have to figure out or have someone else tell you.  I've honestly never had much of a problem finding my teammates unless only one of us was queued in the overflow.  They have fixed it that when you zone between areas, all party members are zoned to the same area, but I gathered from the other night that they hadn't yet ensured that all party members could go to the main server at the same time.  I suspect that will be fixed soon though.

Renown hearts and dynamic events do get more complicated as you move up in areas, and while there are some events that occur somewhat frequently, there are others that happen a lot less often.
