Also, monetary (and a few non-monetary) assets will mean little when the US Dollar collapses (I forgot where you lived 420; US? :( ).
Yes, the U.S.

Throbblefoot and I grew up in Monterey County, CA. but we've lived in San Francisco for around 17 years now.

The nice thing about the California coast is that the property value will never go down, at least in the long-term, which is why I keep reminding my family not to panic and sell their property when the market takes a turn for the worse. (And I keep a nice hefty supply of gold on hand just in case.)

Also, we don't have any seasons on the coast. No snow, never gets very hot, pretty much overcast and cool all year.

If you grow up in the area you don't even pay attention to them unless they last for more than, say, 5 seconds. That means it's a big one and you need to go stand in a doorway. The 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake was the biggest one I was ever in. It was predicted that, because my home town was built on sand, a really big earthquake would cause the sand to act like water and all the buildings would be destroyed. Well, the sand acted like water all right and the entire town rode on top of it like it was surfing waves. Worst damage to my house was that the driveway got a crack in it and a cheesy 60's tourist statue from Hawaii fell off a shelf and broke.

Sorry, didn't even see that I had a new message. I sent a response.

I'd rather have 30 feet of snow than to live on Sand. :P

At least with snow I can have Rootbeer Icys, Lots of them. With earth-quakes I MIGHT beable to wash my clothes on spin cycle without running the washer. -Which doesn't taste good. :P

Goodpoint. However, they still taste good.

I just hope that it is easier to get on Disability there. From what I heard, it is...but You never know...I don't feel like trying for almost 5 years just to get on it...
