I'll have more later but the Hellgate: London servers are down for the next 24 hours for a major update.

Weapon Basics[/span]

Quality Levels
Like Diablo/D2 (magic, rare, set, unique) there are items with different levels of quality or enhancement in Hellgate.

Normal - May have one or more Special Attributes
[attachmentid=1328]

Enhanced[/span] (1 Star) - Has at least one Special Attribute
[attachmentid=1329]

[span style=\'color:blue\']Rare[/span] (2 Stars) - Has at least two Special Attributes
[attachmentid=1330]

[span style=\'color:orange\']Legendary[/span] (3 Stars) - Has at least three Special Attributes
[attachmentid=1331]

[span style=\'color:orange\']Epic[/span]? (4 Stars) - ???? (Not in beta.)

[span style=\'color:yellow\']Unique[/span] (5 Stars) - Quest item but there may be non-quest uniques with set stats like in Diablo
[attachmentid=1332]

Non-Unique Uniques
There seems to be a number of items that are enhanced, rare or legendary but with unique names. I guess they can be called "named" items to avoid confusion. Here are a couple examples:
[attachmentid=1333][attachmentid=1334]

Damage Types
There are several types of damage in Hellgate, each type has a chance to cause a secondary effect.

Damage: Physical
Secondary Effect: Stun (Immobilized for a few seconds.)

Damage: [span style=\'color:red\']Fire[/span]
Secondary Effect: [span style=\'color:red\']Ignite[/span] (Lose 5% life per second)

Damage: [span style=\'color:blue\']Electricity[/span]
Secondary Effect: [span style=\'color:blue\']Shock[/span] (Can't use skills)

Damage: [span style=\'color:green\']Toxic[/span]
Secondary Effect: [span style=\'color:green\']Poison[/span] (Can't heal, health degeneration)

Damage: [span style=\'color:purple\']Spectral [/span]
Secondary Effect: [span style=\'color:purple\']Phase[/span] (Take 50% more damage, deal half damage)

Weapon Mods
Weapons may come with various slots available for inserting modifications. A mod can add one or more new Special Attributes to a weapon. They come in [span style=\'color:green\']enhanced[/span], [span style=\'color:blue\']rare
, and [span style=\'color:orange\']legendary[/color] (maybe more) qualities.

Tech - This mod usually comes in the form of a scope and is usually mounted on a gun.

Ammo - Usually comes in the form of a clip and used in guns.
(Note: There is no real ammo in the game, that is, unlike Diablo's bows you have unlimited shots with a gun.)

Rockets - Like ammo but rocket mod slots are found on larger guns like rocket launchers.

Fuel - Fuel mod slots are found in chemical weapons, including swords.

Battery - Battery slots are found in energy weapons, including swords.

Relic - Relic slots are found in swords and caster focus items.
Oh and for Cuchulann, late last night Throbble discovered that there is indeed magic finding in Hellgate: London! Take a look at this relic:

The beta servers are down for the next 24 hours so I can't check the spelling on some of this stuff until 10:30am Sunday.

Item Crafting[/span]

Crafting Components
The majority of crafting is done with crafting components. Crafting components can only be obtained by "dismantling" weapons and armor (done through the right-click radial menu on items).

The following crafting components come in both normal and rare[/span]:
Scrap Materials
Blessed Shards
Tech Components
Runic Fragments

Crafting Store and Recipes
The two main methods of crafting items with components is through a crafting store located in a metro station or recipe items that you find.

Crafting Store - Usually found near a regular store the crafting store differs in two major ways. First, the items offered in a crafting store require certain combinations of crafting components instead of "Palladium" (money). Second, while a regular store has a selection of weapons, armor and misc items (usually ranging from normal to [span style=\'color:blue\']rare[/span]) a crafting store will offer a selection of similar items, like swords, that range from [span style=\'color:green\']enhanced[/span] to [span style=\'color:yellow\']unique[/span].

The "price" of an item in the crafting store doesn't necessarily reflect the quality of the item.
[attachmentid=1340][attachmentid=1341]

Check the crafting store whenever you are in a station, you just might find a unique.
[attachmentid=1342]

Recipes - Recipes are small, blue items that can be used to create an item using crafting components. Only one randomly generated item can be made and the recipe is destroyed afterwards. Because of their small size, recipes are easy to store and trade.

Upgrading Equipment
There are three methods of upgrading equipment besides weapon mods (mentioned above). These three machines are found in metro stations: the Nano Forge, Augumentrix 3000 and Delux De-Modificator.

Nano Forge - The Nano Forge requires crafting components and can be used to raise the item level of weapons. This has the benefit of making weapons do more damage. So if you find a nice weapon early on you never have to outgrow it.
[span style=\'color:red\']Warning:[/span] Weapon mods have an item level range. Upgrading your weapon to a level beyond that range will render the mod unusable by that weapon.

I tested upgrading armor and it works.
[attachmentid=1344][attachmentid=1345]

Augumentrix 3000 - This machine takes palladium (money) and can be used to add [span style=\'color:green\']enhanced[/span], [span style=\'color:blue\']rare
, or [span style=\'color:orange\']legendary[/color] special attributes to weapons and armor. The special attribute added is random but the quality of the attribute is based on the level of augmentation purchased.

Delux De-Modificator - While not used to upgrade weapons directly this machine can be used to remove weapon mods. This is very handy for when you find better mods or upgrade your weapon beyond its current mod's level range. This machine takes palladium (money) and removed mods are not destroyed.

I've corrected a bit of stuff in the first two posts, including adding a couple screen shots of upgrading armor.

Magic Item Mini Game[/span]
There is a mini game in Hellgate: London that will drop a number of items if you can complete it.

When you enter or leave a station three yellow icons with numbers will appear in the bottom right corner near your energy meter. If you can complete all three of the icon's requirements that number of times you will get a crop of items similar to what boss monsters drop.

The mini game icons.
[attachmentid=1346]
In this picture, from left to right, I must pick up 4 weapon mods, 1 sword and 2 armor (any type) to complete this mini game. No number means it must be completed once.

When you complete an icon it will become colored in.
[attachmentid=1347]
In this picture I've completed the sword and armor requirement but I still need to pick up 2 weapon mods to complete it.

[span style=\'font-size:14pt;line-height:100%\']Icon Definitions[/span]

Sword - Pick up swords.

Gun- Pick up guns.

Helm- Pick up armor (any type).

Kill Creature Type
Upside Down Star - Kill Demons.

Fangs - Kill Beasts.

Hand - Kill Undead.

Radial Pattern with Squiggly Arms - Kill Spectral Creatures.

Kill Creature Using Specific Damage
Hammer - Kill Using Physical Damage.

Flames - Kill Using Fire Damage.

Lightning Bolt - Kill Using Electrical Damage.

Biohazard Sign - Kill Using Toxic Damage.

Radial Pattern with Straight, Even Arms - Kill Using Spectral Damage.

Misc. Icons
Radial Pattern with Jagged Arms - Get a Critical Hit.

[span style=\'color:orange\']Note:
In the beta, it was almost impossible to do thjis one. That problem is fixed in the retail version.
