Netscape 8.1.2 Crashes
« on: February 19, 2007, 01:44:58 PM »
Recently my Netscape 8.1.2  browser has become highly unstable. It seems that after a recent security update to Windows XP I can no longer run Netscape for more than 5 minutes (or less) before it freezes up.

Anyone else experience this problem? I've decided to switch over to Firefox 2.0 for now but I don't see much of a reason for going back to Netscape again.

Can't say that I use Netscape, dislike it. FF all the way. =)

You use Netscape? Good lord.  Now I know where their 0.0002% market share is hiding :P

Well back when Firefox was dead and Netscape 8 came out I used Netscape. By the time Firefox came back from the dead as 2.0 I already had all my password cards and bookmarks set up and I was too lazy to change over to Firefox 2.0 (even though I installed it).

I actually use three, Netscape, Firefox and IE so I can see what some web pages look like with different browsers. Netscape becoming unusable just forced me to remember all my forum passwords and remake my bookmark directories. Now that it's done I'll stick with Firefox.

Fuck, you can do everything with FF. Plain and simple! =D

Well, I have IE and FF currently, but I don't use IE for ANYTHING. I have a plugin where I can view pages in IE through FF. That's how much FF owns. LOL

PS: I'll move this to the comp section.

Wrong. Not even for that. I go there with FF, and the plugin automatically switches FF into IE mode, but is still running in FF. =)

The only reason i used firefox was because it was very easy to add a proxy and get around school filters.

When was FF ever dead? I've been happily using it for years before 2.0.

Back when Netscape 7 (7.1?) came out there was some new internet standard everyone was switching to and FF 1 couldn't display a bunch of pages or play movies. In fact, wasn't Netscape 7 based on FF because there wasn't going to be a new version of FF?

Maybe I misunderstood the situation but I was surprised when I found out there was a new version of FF.

Hmm I'm not aware of any of that.  I guess you're going back further in time then when I started using FF.  I started using it in Feb 2004 I believe.

FF has long since had various updates and tons of add-ons created for it. Though, I do believe you might be right 420, I think I recall something along those lines from some time back, but so vaguely I don't even remember if FF was the thing I'm remembering.

If that is the case, long enough ago, the updates started picking up and everything again. Though, I still use FF 1, and plan to continue using this version for awhile before upgrading. =)
